"SYRUP"

So I was just telling Robert how I never say the word "syrup" because I hate how it's pronounced. I think it should be "sir-up" because "sar-up" sounds so, pretentious somehow or something. Robert said "seer-up" is the way to go but I have a feeling his "seer" = my "sar" (sar as in Sara). OK, So I went to the source to do a little research and here is what I found, you be the judge:

(srp, sûr-) Oh, crap the pronunciation symbols won't work. Umm, I'll just explain them with the word examples they give. Here we go...the first syllabe is of course "s" followed by "i" as in "pit", then the "r"...The second syllable sounds like "e" as in "item" and then "p". That ones a little confusing but the second pronunciation goes as follows: "s" plus the sound "ur" as in "urge" and then the "e" as in "item" plus the "p" sound. So there you go, in Scarlet language its "sir-up" because "sir"="urge"! Yay, I can no longer feel like the minority when I say "sir-up"...I even think "sirp" (a quicker "sir-up" if you will) is acceptable, It's the pronunciations that make it sound like more than 2 syllables that make me cringe. yelch!
I should think of more things to research on...Here's a pet peeve: mispelling ridiculous!!! THERE IS NO "E"!!!!!
